This dissertation explores the combination of commercial exergaming with health-tracking applications to assess their impact on user motivation and adherence to exercise routines. Employing a mixed-method approach that includes usability testing, exergame demonstrations, and semi-structured interviews, the study delves into how gamified elements and real-time data analytics can enhance physical activity engagement. Findings indicate that while gamified fitness solutions like Ring Fit Adventure significantly boost initial motivation, particularly among novices and busy individuals, their appeal diminishes for experienced users due to limitations in exercise intensity and personalisation. The study’s insights are pivotal for developing more nuanced exergaming platforms that cater to a broader audience and contribute to sustained fitness habits, providing a foundation for future innovations in health technology integration.
