This project assesses the viability of using small language models with a range of prompt-engineering techniques to generate writing feedback which meets the needs of students resitting GCSE English Language. Using established metrics, measure the quality of the feedback. Objectives: - Curate a dataset of GCSE students’ writing annotated with teacher feedback. - Implement feedback generation systems using zero-shot, few-shot and retrieval augmented generation prompt engineering techniques using a range of small language models. - Evaluate the generated feedback using a mixed-methods approach. - Analyse the systems’ performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
