Description: This project will develop a web application to support dietitians in caring for women with gestational diabetes. Potential features of the app, as identified in the fieldwork, include: creating meal plans, inputting nutrition recommendations, and personalising the patients’ mobile app. The project will be conducted in collaboration with Beatriz Félix and Francisco Nunes from Fraunhofer AICOS. This thesis occurs in the context of a larger project, NUTRIA, which goal is to develop a system to support women with gestational diabetes, which includes a mobile app for patients, a web app for nutritionists, and a meal recommendation system engine. This student would collaborate with the project and build on a design prototype developed by a previous thesis. Workplan: Literature review on gestational diabetes and technologies for dietitians; Develop the web app using React; Conduct usability tests with end-users; Report results and write thesis;
Innovation: There are few systems for dietitians being developed, but we believe this to be the first one being specifically developed to support the management of gestational diabetes. Possible Challenges: Integration of the web app for dietitians with the mobile app for patients; Profile: Background in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or similar; Experience in web development; Interest in understanding the issues of women with gestational diabetes; Good social skills for interacting with participants; Ability to speak Portuguese (is a plus); References: Kyto et al.
