Being a looked after child is scary, overwhelming and confusing with loads of different people, processes and agencies involved. A looked after child is often removed from their parental home because of child protection issues where it has been determined that the child is in danger of significant harm. Children will often not understand what is happening to them and will be faced with lots of agencies suddenly involved in their lives. Each of these agencies will have acronyms and processes that are complex and children are rarely aware of what their rights are. This project aims to provide a simple digital guide for children to help them navigate through the complexity of being a looked after child. The guide will need to be suitable for a range of ages and literacy abilities. It should be able to explain to the child what is happening to them, what the processes are, who the different agencies/people are and most importantly what their rights are. This project will involve working directly with the Education Director at the Child Friendly Cardiff team.
